There are no entry requirements to studying AAT qualifications. Good mathematical skills required and a good command of the English language.
You should be 14 years or older - If under 16 you must have the consent of a parent or guardian.
Have access to to a PC or laptop - This course is both MAC and Windows compliant).
The AAT consists of 3-levels. All are study via distance learning. Each level is standalone qualifications meaning on successful completion of each level, you are AAT qualified at each AAT level. As a training provider, we provide students with own pace learning so they achieve the skills needed to start or progress their careers. The courses can be financed through interest free instalments.
The three levels are: The Level 2 Certificate in Accounting qualifications - The Level 3 Diploma in accounting qualifications and The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting qualifications. The roles possible vary per level.
Level 2 - roles are at this AAT level: payable and expenses supervisor, finance assistant, sales ledger finance assistant, accounts administrator, finance officer, accounts payable clerk, accounts assistant, payroll administrator.
Level 3 - roles are: senior bookkeeper, tax assistant, assistant accountant, audit trainee, trainee in financial management, management accounting officer, assistant credit controller and other assistant accountant and financial management roles.
Level 4 - roles are moving higher in the accounting profession towards a financial management accountancy career roles in the wider aspects of the business environment and preparing financial statements management. On completion of level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting you will become an AAT Accountant. You may then go on to study to become a chartered accountant. As level 4 qualified you will already be able to take on a lot of accountants work due to the skills set and knowledge learnt at each level
There are 4 modules to complete at level 2. At the end of each module you will sit an exam as follows:
Introduction to Bookkeeping - 1 exam (90 mins)
Principles of Bookkeeping Controls - 1 exam (90 mins)
Principles of Costing - 1 exam (90 mins)
The Business Environment Synoptic Assessment- 1 exam (120 mins)
Booking Exams
When to book your exams - It is time to think about booking your exam when you begin the revision stages of your studies. Revision on average takes 3 weeks to complete. Booking an exam at this stage gives you a focused end date for exam readiness.
You can sit your exams close to where you live. With the AAT qualification, there are no set exam dates for AAT, you sit them when you are ready. We will advise you on how to book closer to when you are ready for the first exam.
Do I have to study Bookkeeping before studying the Accounting route?
No. The bookkeeping exams are included in the accounting pathway. You will automatically achieve the bookkeeping qualification as you progress through the level 2 and le3vel 3 accounting qualifications.
When do I start the work experience?
The works experience team will get in touch with you as you begin your final unit of study for the level you are currently enrolled on to if a single level 2 or above. If you have enrolled on to a package, you choose at the end of which level you want to complete your work experience. We recommend either level 2 or level 3.
